Addax rfc club history

2007-2009

Rugby football fosters good will and makes friends. Addax Petroleum is committed to building stable relations where it works and plays. The dream is to teach rugby to schools, universities and communities in the Niger Delta region. Rugby football is fast being established in underprivileged areas of the world, to wean people off drugs and violence.

The ADDAX initiative is driven by altruism and a desire to identify with benevolent causes that provides support to people on the bread line. The club is founded on Christian prayer and support and is totally welcoming and inclusive; where Christians, Moslems and all persuasions are encouraged to participate, work and grow together, on and off the field. Currently, ADDAX provides free bus transportation for the players who are conveyed to the British International School (BIS) venue where training sessions are held every Sunday by kind permission of the Headmaster, David Ogburn.

It is our intention to grow Rugby Football to an enviable height in Nigeria and to give poor people the chance to be winners to achieve their full potential and the emphasis will be given to youngsters to help them develop their game. To achieve this objective, Mr. Emeka Ukome, is being appointed Rugby Coordinator and will be responsible for coordinating coaching teams within schools, universities and communities in the Delta region by introducing top level coaching and refereeing courses in a rugby style academy. ADDAX rugby also has the encouragement and commitment of the UK Rugby Charity Tour Aid who have agreed to sponsor an ADDAX under 13 side to visit the Roslyn Park Sevens in the UK next March 10/11 in 2009. Addax encourage further sponsors from Nigerian and British companies, clubs and schools who wish to support us and want to contribute and at the same time advertise themselves in links to our website as “Friends of ADDAX Rugby”. On the playing front, we have been coaching over a hundred newcomers to the game since our inception last October. We are seeking the help of both experienced Nigerian and expatriate rugby players in fulfilling our objectives.
